The Air Jordan 4 remains one of the most recognisable basketball silhouettes of the late 1980s: moulded plastic wings, a quarter-panel netting window, and a visible Air unit in the heel. This Retro SE “Craft” pair (style HV0823-101) keeps that architecture and finishes it in a quieter, workwear-leaning palette — sail, olive, orewood brown and pale vanilla — instead of a loud team colourway.

The colourway

Sail covers most of the upper. Neutral olive hits the overlays, mudguard and parts of the midsole foxing. Light orewood brown and pale vanilla sit in the midsole, outsole and small hardware details so the shoe reads as one muted family of tones rather than high-contrast blocks. It photographs as an off-white AJ4 with an olive wash — easy next to denim, khaki and dark neutrals.

Materials and construction

The SE Craft build leans on textured suede and nubuck rather than a flat leather shell. You get:

The result is closer to a premium lifestyle retro than a glossy retail leather AJ4. The suede will mark with wear; that is expected on this material, not a defect.

Fit and wear

Jordan 4s generally run true to US men’s size for most people. If you are between sizes or have a wide forefoot, many wearers go a half size up. The wing eyelets let you lock the midfoot tighter than a standard lace-up. This is a lifestyle pair first — fine for walking and everyday use, not a performance basketball shoe.
